This Saturday – Double event

All members invited to lunch.

When:                        Saturday, 27th Feb at 11:00

What:             At 11:00 our Slow Food guests will have a tour of the garden. Then around 11:30 there will be a general discussion on pulses and a LUNCH to demonstrate the variety of uses of pulses in our daily food lives as well as the versatility of the produce we grow. It will be tasty and fun.

Wear:             Name tag.

(Pulses: The edible seeds of various crops (as peas, beans, or lentils) of the legume family)

Questions? –> Pam Sando on psando@senet.com.au

This Saturday – Drone over the Community Garden

Around 11:00 am a drone enthusiast will take some video of the Community Garden as a magpie would see it from the air. It will be fun to show your friends if you are with lots of people in the garden doing what gardeners like to do. (Not tea and coffee drinking, I mean Gardening. )
The Slow Food visitors might be in for a shock.

Bunnings Sausage sizzles

From Flash Mob King, Neville.

Our next BBQ Funraiser at Bunnings is on Thursday 17th March which is on St Patrick’s Day.

Thursday Sausage Sizzles have been a bit slow for us active gardener types, so what do people think of 3 hour shifts?  We still reckon we need 4 bodies to help set up , and 4 again at the end to pack up, so our committee has come up with 3 shifts of about 3 hours.

The new shift times:

1st Shift — 7.30 am  –  10.30 am ( might be a good move to be there by 7.20)

2nd Shift — 10.30 am –  1.30 pm

3rd Shift  — 1.30 pm  –  4.00 pm, dismantle and pack up ( finish about 4.45 pm or sooner )

In any case, if anyone wishes to put in the usual 4 hour stint , that’s very good.

My door is open and my mobile phone bill is up to date, so looking forward to your nominations for these spots  as well as thoughts and ideas.
Cheers , Neville D    0408 877 118

*Last Bunnings S Sizzle went slow but $450 definitely added to the coffers.*

Member General plots

We are looking for members who are happy to look after a Member General plot perhaps alongside their plot. Please see Pam or Michael. We are thinking of labelling such plots as “Carer: Jenny Greenfingers” or whatever. Stay tuned.

Emergency – larger Coffee plunger needed.

We have a nice one person plunger but if someone would like to donate a 2 or 3 person coffee plunger, you will be thanked by the coffee drinking caffeine addicts among us.

Gardening to Avoid Greenhouse Gas Emissions

From Sustainable Gardening Australia:

As our climate warms (it’s official now!) and weather gets wilder, it seems appropriate to consider what extra actions gardeners can take to reduce emissions of the gases that are known to contribute to temperature rise.  Read more
